HawkinsTunes.com began several years ago with the thought of people helping people. Dawn and I, as well as our

family, have been helping others for years. When we thought about helping we realized that helping is like freedom -

it is not free. Rather it be money, time, sacrifice or just simply going out of your way to do something you otherwise

would not have done. But if you were to think about the cost you would never help. I believe that is part of what's

wrong with our great nation. No one wants to do anything for someone else unless there is something in it for

themselves. Well that's just crap! It's not about what you get out of it but what someone else gets who may otherwise

not have. Besides, if you have ever helped someone - if you have ever seen that look - then you did get something

out of it!


We also thought about who needs help. Who should we spend time, money or sacrifice for? Well it really wasn't hard

to figure out that our Veterans are first on that list. Our military personnel make extraordinary sacrifices in order to

protect our country and others who are less fortunate around the world. They work long hours and spend extended

periods of time away from their families to fight for the freedoms that allow us to enjoy the freedom and the way of life

to which we’ve grown accustomed. Just about all of us have a Veteran in the family.



My Grandpa served his country very well in WWII and served his family even better the rest of his life. My dad is a

great man who served in Vietnam. Dawn's dad served his country in more ways then one. He is one of the people

responsible for putting a man on the moon. That nose-cone on the Apache Helicopter, that was him. My son is a

Corpsman serving in Afghanistan. I'm sure you have your Veterans that you are proud of as well. The point is, they

helped us and gave so much to so many! That's why we decided to help raise awareness for and donate to,

Veterans Guest House



We also knew that God wanted our help. Yes we choose to believe and God is who we believe in. You choose to

believe in what you do and that is fine. For us it is God. Is this not what our Veterans have and continue to fight

for? Our freedom to choose!

Dawn's sister and her family are doing mission work and helping others in various ways. We support this as well. An

unknown number of lives have been saved and/or changed for the better over the past fifteen years. 99% of the

volunteer work is being done in Guatemala. I just love the opening statement of their mission: To bring the love of

Christ in both word and deed to those in need.


"Your Veterans"
 
My son, a Corpsman serving in Afghanistan, sparked an interest in me to write a song honoring our Veterans. Then

one day while I was at a gas station filling my tank, I noticed a man across the way filling his tank. I could see he was

a Veteran by the hat he had on. I watched people come and go without giving him a second thought. I just shook my

head and thought, “don’t these people know what he may have sacrificed so that they could be there filling their

tanks?” So I walked over to the man, looked him in the eyes, shook his hand and thanked him for his service! His

eyes lit up and what I saw humbled me. I went home and wrote Your Veterans.
